In-Solidarity-with-Local-2

Today, the first round of layoffs officially began at the Crofton pulp mill on Vancouver Island. Families are losing their paychecks, and workers are being forced to empty their lockers. Despite the critical role forestry plays in our economy, our Brothers and Sisters in the Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) are being met with federal delays and inadequate support.

MP Gord Johns recently took this fight to the floor of the House of Commons, calling out the government’s failure to protect BC forestry workers.

How You Can Help Right Now

We need to amplify this message and show the government and the workers at Crofton that the entire labor movement stands with the PPWC.

Please take 30 seconds to support the cause:

1. Watch: View the video of Gord Johns’ speech here:

2. Like and Share: Like the video and share it on your personal and affiliate social media pages.

3. Comment: Use the hashtag #StandWithCrofton and #SupportPPWC to demand fair treatment for BC forestry workers.

A video with 100 views is a local complaint. A video with 10,000 likes is a political risk.

Politicians are highly sensitive to their digital reputation. When a video of a speech (like Gord Johns’) is widely shared, it serves as a public scorecard. It shows the government that people are actually watching what happens in the House of Commons and are holding them accountable for the “failure to act” mentioned in the speech.

When the auto and steel sectors face a crisis, the federal government steps in. Forestry workers deserve that same respect. They aren’t asking for handouts; they are asking for the benefits they’ve earned and the dignity they deserve.
